ChatGPT image and GPT Image model coverage
The ChatGPT image media and ChatGPT images are featured on this page. It is the product type and release dates when watermarks were included in particular image families.
| Model or family | Export details | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| GPT Image 2.5 | Sunburst and Flare variants | Save your exact output and write down the model name if it is available. |
| GPT Image 2 | gpt-image-2 and gpt-image-2 dated version | Compare reference image details, text and the processed PNG. |
| GPT Image 1.5 | gpt-image-1.5 | Check faces, letters and design. |
| GPT Image 1 / mini | gpt-image-1 and gpt-image-1-mini | You cannot assume that the older saved output uses the same provenance features as a newer export. |
| ChatGPT image alias | chatgpt-image-latest | The alias can be changed. Use the export date instead. |
| Legacy DALL·E images | Older image-generation family | Content Credentials do not determine the SynthID detection. |
Does ChatGPT use SynthID?
According to OpenAI, the presence and form of the SynthID for ChatGPT images, Codex and its APIs with C2PA are described. It differs by the product, so you have to analyze your downloaded image instead of referring to the app's name only.
A practical image workflow
Select the highest quality image to download it. Upload one of the appropriate PNG, JPG or WebP. Process your image. Use the compare slider to see how the processed image looks at the original size. Save the image in PNG as your version.
Check designs and typography closely
For a social graphic, analyze the headlines, punctuation marks and small captions. If it is a product photo pay attention to the logos, labels and edges. If it is an illustration, study the line work and repeat elements. Make corrections to the content and/or your project if needed.
Metadata is a separate layer
Content Credentials and the embedded watermark represent different provenance systems. A lack of the corresponding metadata field is not equivalent to the absence of SynthID feature. In case of the watermark question, use the corresponding detector. Analyze metadata separately.
Try one image free
One image is included in the trial of image analysis free for each user. The other processed image costs you one credit. Check the information about allowances from the Starter and Grow packages from our plans page.
ChatGPT audio and video are different formats
Image processing is covered on this page. Images described as ChatGPT media belong there too. Separate processing and detecting are required for audio files and videos. Our image trial does not cover audio or video, so go to dedicated pages to find out more.
