Visible watermarks

A visible mark takes up a portion of image pixels or a video frame pixel array. You can look at it. Loss of the visual mark only proves the absence of a visible mark in this place; it proves nothing about the presence or absence of an embedded mark.

Invisible watermarks

An invisible watermark demands an appropriate detection method. Two digital pictures or videos can have an identical appearance whereas the detection result is opposite or vice versa – a visually altered picture or video still may carry a watermark.

Metadata and Content Credentials

Metadata is the information associated with the file. Various provenance schemes exist and may prove useful but they cannot serve as a substitute for the embedded watermarks. Analyze separately.

A useful review order

First, see that the picture or audio clip looks or sounds as it is expected to. Secondly, analyze the provenance records according to your workflow needs. Finally, apply an available watermark detection test to your file export.

For our image tool

The side-by-side before and after slider is a useful quality tool. It cannot show any information on the invisible watermark detection. Make detailed observations first and then perform a separate detection.
